Notes on our documentary film...

Viroqua

New subtitle... provocative and mysterious

V I R O Q U A

Examination of a Town's Demise

Theme that Viroqua is about the perish... or thrive?  A real-time adventure with a completely unclear outcome... one we are documenting as I write.

The primordial soul of a place... Viroqua's soul... about to be discovered and inevitably exploited by corporate hegemony, plutocracy, that wants what she's got... potential energy that is.

They will take our greatest assets... charm, humility, and a shared consciousness...  they will assimitate our tribe and plasticize, homogenize and erase.

Thus, one of the film's goals is to provide the Soul of Viroqua a voice, a song, a canvas, and thereby allow, perhaps, her soul to survive and endure.

Show dialectic tension between pastoral tolerance, balance, and love VERSES scenes of greed, fear, ego, selfishness.

which will prevail?

:::

My brother David is making his way home to Viroqua... there is the struggle of how best to make the journey.  I suggest he go with his initial gut reaction... take the train at Whitefish, Montana... 150 miles from his new home in Missoula...  a vintage 24-hour trek to the place he was born.

Then, despite the fact my filmmaker brother is without his camera, lol, I beg him to film the experience for our movie.

Right now, he's trying to secure a ride to Whitefish... and borrow a camera, lol.

OPENING SCENE EXAMPLE...

[My brother David writing on the Whitefish, Montana train, bound for Viroqua}....

{David's voice-over -on train video footage, him writing, scenes through the smudged windows, dining car nearly mundane, etc}

David's voice-over:

"Sometimes when a place dies....

before the last gasp

the terminal end

she musters enough will

to wail out with all she has left

one last plea...

'Help!...'

she sees... 12,000 years of her tribe's blood

her ancient love-stories

burials,

births....

All about to perish

at the hands of

greed's tribe

... unrelenting

and....

brutal

they will take of her

delicate flesh

and leave her to die

alone

and afraid

...

but not just yet...

barren of her song.

QUE: beautiful haunting melodic Wailing ballad (Sandra?)

....train moves eastward to La Crosse

:::

impending ineluctable rape torture and murder of the soul of Viroqua.

-tell this story using our documentary work. The captured actuality woven into 37 scenes that oppose segments suggesting the hope a new tribal civilization, with a return to consciousness, an awakening....

Verses ....

I got mine, private wealth

private fear

and private desires

....like the battle of the white witch vs Aslan, The Hobbits verses the fire eye of desire

love verses entropy

new tribalism

A venture that will emerge from these organic lands (how fitting)....

Entrepreneurial cooperative capitalism based on localism, public markets, and sustainable survival of the tribe.

a story about an epic battle to save the souls of a town

before its too fucking late

or is it ....already too fucking late?

The death of Viroqua WI

the suspense

does she or does she not survive

when a place dies

one can feel it's absence

our journey home, called by her plea

keep her tribe alive

reconnecting with self

tribe

earth

god

-all the same process

-self similarity at many levels...

Art... God

one cannot guard
